Today I wanted to highlight Nelson Mandela on his Freedom Day. Imprisoned, on what was initially a life sentence, for 27 years, many might have given up, but he did not! With the help of fellow prisoners and his visitors, Mandela smuggled out statements and letters to spark the continuing anti-apartheid movement. When he was finally released, he went on to win 270 different awards including the Nobel Peace Prize and was elected President of South Africa! The election that elected him President was the first fully represented election for South Africa and the first Mandela every voted in.
