Yesterday marked 99 years since the death of Harriet Tubman. Tubman, most famous for her work on the underground railroad, working to free over 70 slaves in her lifetime, risking certain death if caught, was a true American hero who stood up for what she believed was right. I urge you to find some time to review these Amazing Facts about her life. Her quote below, is so believable, so impactful, because, in the face of true adversity, she did just that…changed the world.
I also want to highlight another true American hero, Autherine Lucy Foster, who died last week, at the age of 92. 10 years before the Stand in the Schoolhouse Door, Autherine, after completing her bachelor’s degree at Miles College in Alabama, applied to the University of Alabama to obtain a second degree, and was subsequently accepted by the university…until they realized she was black.
