It might be cliché to highlight Henry David Thoreau on earth day, but what is now cliché, used to be vanguard. Thoreau is synonymous with nature, due to his work Walden. Thoreau was also a stalwart thorn in the side of government. He was many more things than just the man to quote on Earth Day! Check out these FUN FACTS about him.
The earth, like Henry, is resilient. When we talk about the crises plaguing the earth right now, we take it from a very self-centered approach, that the impact that we are having on the earth is to the detriment of the human race. It is, but ultimately, the earth will survive, while the human race goes extinct. One can liken it’s purging of the human race from it’s surface, due to the long documented mistreatment, as the way one swats a fly from one’s arm. It may seem callous, but long after the human race is gone, the earth will still be here, as the brilliant orb 3 stones from the sun, not quite spherical, with it’s molten core, to spin on until it is consumed by the sun.
Go out and enjoy nature this weekend. Tread lightly and give it the respect it deserves.
