Happy Aloha Friday and Hau'oli Mau Lānui!
The 23rd of December is a forgetful day in the scheme of things (unless you celebrate the non-commercialized holiday of Festivus). Overshadowed by one of the most famous “eves” and dwarfed by the Christmas Holiday, not to mention the following week’s New Year holiday one-two punch, the 23rd is the equivalent of Kevin McCallister (shout out if you get the reference)! But, alas, it is the 357th day of the year. Just a few more until we can say we have seen another one of earths full revolutions around the sun. DID YOU KNOW: Earth revolves in orbit around the sun in 365 days, 6 hours, 9 minutes with reference to the stars, at a speed ranging from 29.29 to 30.29 km/s. The 6 hours, 9 minutes adds up to about an extra day every fourth year, which is designated a leap year, with the extra day added as February 29th.
I think about Van Gogh’s output (see the did you know below) and James Clear’s quote and have to wonder exactly how many works of Van Gogh didn’t get accounted for, owing to the fact that he scrapped it, or iterated upon it. I, then, wondered, “How many minutes or days of music has Eddie Vedder played in his career?” Since 1990, Pearl Jam has performed 1,027 concerts. Averaging 20 songs per show, that is 20K songs played/sung. With an average song length of 4 minutes, that is 80k minutes. If you sprinkle in his solo performances, studio time, etc…it equates to about 100 days (144K minutes) of playing music, nonstop, if you strung each minute together.
So I ask myself, if I do the math, how am I going to capitalize on MY time in 2023 to sharpen an existing skill or create a new one?
