Happy Aloha Friday Y’all!

This week marks the passing of two amazing writers, Fyodor Dostoyevsky and Sylvia Plath. Both struggled immensely in their life. Those struggles were probably a driving factor in Sylvia Plath writing her senior thesis on Dostoyevsky. I studied both in school and was always amazed at how out of struggle comes some of the most amazing work. It was that same struggle that inspired artists like Bob Dylan to create their body of work, especially in such a turbulent era as the 60’s and 70’s in the US.

I feel it is also important to call out the struggle facing those who live in Turkey and Syria and those who have family in that part of the world that have been affected. In the midst of such tragedy and loss, I am inspired by the heroic actions of those who are at ground zero sifting through wreckage to find survivors, the stories of survival that have sprung up over the past few days, and how so many across the world have rallied support in so many ways for those suffering. While nothing can bring back the lives of those that have been lost, again, amidst tragedy, there lies a glimmer of hope, and real example of global citizenship, peering through the struggle!
