From the email era. This went out as a plain email — not on LinkedIn — to a work distribution list. Signature blocks, phone numbers and work links have been removed, and colleagues are referred to by role rather than by name. The writing is unchanged.

Happy Aloha Friday,

A lot of inspiration came from this week’s combined offsite, even for those of us who were virtual. I keep circling back to the words of wisdom shared during the event by our leadership, a trio of trios as it were, and wanted to highlight them here.

One of our leaders: Inspiration, Connection, and Appreciation

A second leader: Impactful, Scalable and Important

A third leader: Engagement, Exposure, and Expansion

I thought I would riff, today, off of that leader’s tripartite feedback as we kicked off the offsite: Inspiration, Connection, and Appreciation!

Inspiration:I am inspired every day by my team to perform my absolute best. I am blessed to be a part of a team that, day in and day out, is doing such good across its customer base and the communities they support. That was evident during the Customer Panel when one of our nonprofit customers was highlighting the work of a teammate (and formerly a former teammate) relative to LIHEAP Funding. In this time of climate crisis, record heatwaves scorching the entire country, we have made an impact in helping to save lives, one AC unit at a time.

Connection:I feel a connection with each of my teammates, regardless of the distance that is between us, and am amazed how we continue to bridge the virtual divide and come together as if we were all working in the same office. This is no small feat. Other companies, possibly even other ORGs within Amazon, are not as successful as we have been and continue to be. Don’t get me wrong, virtual will never take the place of an in person smile, an actual collaboration, and actual high five or fist bump or hug. Still, we navigate this landscape with grace and expertise and I applaud us all for it.

Appreciation:There is the appreciation for the team that pulled this entire collaborative event together. I know there were others, but Sam, AMAZING JOB! You Rock! Leadership team: it has been said before and will continue to be echoed…you are the glue the binds, the precedent that has been set, the DO AS I DO! Thank you to the leaders for cultivating this diverse and inclusive culture stacked with heaps of talent, compassion, and drive! And to this Rockstar Nonprofit team who continue to push to the bleeding edge while never sacrificing the team aspect of it all. It is unique in a sales culture to have a culture of knowledge sharing, inclusion and teamwork.

Below is your weekly moment of zen. I also wanted to share this track with y’all: Jeff Buckley | Hallelujah. Originally penned by Leonard Cohen, Buckley’s version sticks as it stings, soothes at it bruises and immediately, when I heard Andy talk about Inspiration, Connection, and Appreciation, I thought of this song. It moves me in a way that not many other songs do. I invite you to take a listen.

Mahalo Nui,

Matthew
