This weekend marks 56 years since the tragic plane crash that took Otis Redding’s life. Otis was just 26 when he died, yet he is still considered to be one of the greatest soul singers of all time: the male equivalent of Aretha Franklin! In fact, Otis wrote Respect for Aretha Franklin!
Also, 58 years ago today A Charlie Brown Christmas aired for the first time. It’s ironic, but when I dive deep into the theme from that movie it bares an eerie resemblance to that of Redding’s The Dock of the Bay. Though both speak about the hopelessness that sometimes comes with the human condition, both find solace and beauty in the simplest, even “not so” beautiful things (ships coming into San Francisco Bay, a beat up, raggedy tree). It’s all about perspective and intent. Find where someone or something needs your love and hope and be willing to share it, even when the spirit doesn’t move you.
